About this coin

Designed by Felix Schlag and introduced in 1938, the Jefferson Nickel replaced the Buffalo Nickel after a quarter-century run.

Wartime nickel rationing produced the silver War Nickels of 1942-1945 (35% silver, 56% copper, 9% manganese), distinguishable by an oversized mintmark above Monticello on the reverse.
