About this coin
Designed by John Flanagan and introduced in 1932 to mark the bicentennial of George Washington's birth, the Washington Quarter replaced the Standing Liberty Quarter.
Composition shifted from 90% silver to copper-nickel clad in 1965 under the Coinage Act. The 50 State Quarters program ran from 1999 through 2008, followed by the America the Beautiful series from 2010 through 2021.
